The Cherry Barn wedding venue is a stunning 17th-century East Sussex oak framed barn venue available for weddings and events located just outside of Rye and in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We offer exclusive 48-hour hire periods and can seat up to 150 guests comfortably. The Cherry Barn is licensed for weddings but for those wanting a religious ceremony, the Norman church of St Peter and St Paul in Peasmarsh is only a short stroll away. Our oak framed gazebo means we can also offer outdoor wedding ceremonies. For those looking to celebrate their union in our woodland or under an oak tree, a celebrant led blessing is the perfect solution! The Cherry Barn is also a gay friendly venue.
The Cherry Barn is located on a 400-acre working family farm in the Sussex countryside, border with Kent. The venue is set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is only a seven-minute drive from the medieval town of Rye and a short stroll from the Norman church in Peasmarsh. The Cherry Barn, with its backdrop of orchards and farmland, is a stunning rural retreat for any wedding or event, but is within easy reach of London.
The original traditional oak-framed barn has been fitted with full-height glass doors and windows that overlook the orchard and give extensive views of the surrounding countryside.
1. How did you get into your profession?
We live in a working farm (my husband’s Steve) and Steve runs it. I worked in the luxury industry (LVMH) in marketing, sales and events, but left when my second child was born. I continued to work in luxury, but this time closer to home for an English sparkling wine producer.
Steve and I always discussed transforming our 17th century barn into a wedding venue. We researched and spoke to many professionals. 4 years later (2 years for planning to be granted and 2 years of building/refurb), The Cherry Barn was born! That was the 3rd of June 2018, on my birthday!!!
2. What is the ethos behind your company?
We believe couples should have THEIR wedding and not the same wedding as the couple before them... The Cherry Barn is truly a blank canvas. Every single wedding here has been unique and reflected perfectly the couple getting married. For us it’s very exciting to see what the next couple will do.
3. What is your favourite part of what you do as a company?
Our favourite part is discovering new trends and tendencies, being current, improving what we have and making sure we are always moving forward and not stagnant. We love meeting all the wonderful, talented suppliers and discovering new trends together.
4. Are you working on or launching any new products/services soon that you would like to share with our viewers?
We’re always improving The Cherry Barn. We just added lights on our path. We hadn’t realised that it can get very dark here as there isn’t any light pollution! We also added a large hard standing parking for winter weddings.
5. How have you adapted your business and communicating with clients during the current COVID-19 crisis, and what positives have come out of it for you? Do you have any tips for fellow suppliers or couples postponing or planning their weddings?
My biggest tip is be fair. This isn’t easy for anyone and it’s no one’s fault. We’re all trying to accommodate the best way we can, but we all need to be a bit flexible. If you have any concerns, please speak to your supplier. Have a frank conversation about your worries and what is important to you. But as mentioned, be prepared to move to a different date, month, etc.
6. In general, what is your favourite thing about weddings?
We love our couples! As much as they fall in love with The Cherry Barn, we fall in love with them! I don’t know if it’s a barn thing, or the fact that the hire is a 48-hour exclusive hire, but our couples are lovely, relaxed and have incredible good taste!! Each wedding is a true reflexion of them and always special.
