Like many other #smallbusinesses, when #COVID19 hit the UK and our Government made the conscience decision to enforce the national #lockdown back in mid-March, we were beside ourselves. What did this mean for our #business, our peers in the #weddingindustry, and everyone else in the months to come?
We had an almost fully booked Summer season of #weddings, most of which have had to be postponed to 2021, and we really felt for our #couples and everyone else planning and postponing weddings at this time. With so many upcoming #weddingfairs having to cancel, we decided to follow suit with the virtual movement during this trying time and created our very own #virtualfair, all for the purposes of supporting the #suppliers we've worked with in the past and raising money for two wonderful causes, #AgeUK and our very own #NHS, not to mention giving us a project to really sink our teeth into... and boy, didn't we!
In all honestly, we did not know which our our lovely supplier friends or venues would be interested but we contacted them with our idea and were overwhelmed with the response! All in all, 26 suppliers came on board and provided us with their content; that's when the hard word began!
Make no bones about it, organising any public event is no easy feat, but essentially we were putting on a virtual wedding #showcase, perhaps the first of it's kind, who knows - there certainly wasn't a manual for this kind of stuff! Luckily, with our ex-IT-guru-turned-admin-queen Rachel and trusted friend Google on hand, we made the what seemed impossible possible and went completely #LIVE on Sunday 24th June for a full 7 hours with a mix of live feeds from ourselves, suppliers and pre-recorded content that we broadcasted via our Facebook page.
It took 3 weeks, hours of research, planning, editing, testing and marketing but I think we pulled it off! ;-P We had a consistent number of viewers throughout and all our wonderful supplier friends were online to show their support and answer any queries viewers had. The response we received was incredible and to top it all off, we reached our £500 target for AgeUK and the NHS in #JustGiving - the best cherry on the top we could have asked for!
We would like to thank everyone who contributed, supported and tuned in to our Virtual Supplier Showcase from the bottom of our hearts - we truly are humbled and ever so grateful. It just goes to show that in times of crisis, we are stronger as one and community spirit is far from dead. :-)
